About KMU-Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar is a public sector university situated in Peshawar, Hayat Abad. Currently, KMU is the only medical University in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It is a full-fledged University having 11 constituent institutes with excellent teaching and research opportunities. The University offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in different medical and allied health sciences.

Pharmacy, the science and art concerned with the preparation and standardization of drugs. Pharmacy is also is related to dispensing medicines along with provision of drug-related information to the public. It involves the interpretation of prescription orders; compounding, labeling, and dispensing of drugs and devices; drug product selection and drug utilization reviews; render patient-centered care to improve therapeutic outcomes and quality of life. Pharmacists are responsible for the preparation of the dosage forms of drugs, such as tablets, capsules, and sterile solutions for injection.

The history of pharmaceutical education has closely followed that of medical education. As the training of the physician underwent changes from the apprenticeship system to formal educational courses, so did the education and training of the pharmacist. The course leading to a Doctor of Pharmacy degree is comprised of five years.
